Welcome to Sherwood

Welcome to our off the grid refuge in the foothills of the Sonoma redwoods. We are fortunate to be the newest stewards of this parcel of the old Sweeetwater Ranch. We look at this privilege as an honor as well as a responsibility. We ask that you do the same.

Covid-19

We are still practicing strict quarantine rules at Sherwood. Out of respect for our quaranteam, please take the following seriously and let us know what group you fit into:


Group 1. If you’ve been properly quarantining for at least 3 weeks, wearing masks in public, not taking public transportation of any kind, not working in an enclosed space with others or living with someone who does, then you can join us for dinners in the house main house and hang out inside.

Group 2. If you have NOT been quarantining, living in a community house, working with other people in enclosed spaces or living with someone who does, or generally feel unsafe exposing the rest of us please plan most meals on your own. Weather permitting, please join us for socially distant dinners on the patio.

If you're jelly that you don't fit into Group 1 you can quarantine for one week and get a test. You easily get tested at a nearby drive through testing facility. In San Francisco you can signup online and get tested within a day.

House Rules

  • No fires outside of a designated fireplace! Smokers, be extremely vigilant.
    • If you need to be told how dangerous this area is, please show yourself out the same way you came in.
  • No guns! This is a safe and quiet space for all and we'd like to keep it that way.
  • No gas vehicles besides the vehicle you drove here in.
    • We welcome electric bikes, electric dirt bikes, and electric golf carts. Our goal is to keep this forest quiet
  • Do not flush anything other than toilet paper! We are 100% off the grid here
  • Be respectful of others and the land during your stay
  • Do not cross fences onto the neighbors property.
    • You're not in the city anymore. People here like their privacy and can use force to remove you.
  • Take your shoes off when you’re in any of the buildings
    • During the rainy season or when dirty, please use mud room for entry
  • If you break something or see something broken please say something
    • Maintaing a property this large is challenging and its hard to see everything. Please be helpful

Wildlife

  • Ticks
    • This area is covered in ticks. Fortunately for us, Lyme disease is very rare in California.
    • That said, Lyme takes ~24 hours to transfer from the tick. We recommend checking for ticks daily to be safe.
    • You can easily remove them with a tweezer. Remember to twist while pulling it out. It will help remove all of it in one go
  • Boar
    • There are wild boar on the property. Although we have never seen them, their tracks can be seen around the property.
    • They are pretty good at keeping to themselves and are usually out and about at dusk and dawn.
    • They are relatively safe but the sow can be very protective of her piglets. Stay away from them if you see them.
  • Coyotes
    • This area is home to many coyotes.
    • They are more afraid of you then you think but dont provoke them or follow them.
    • Be particularly careful if you have a dog. They will often act playful and get your dog to follow it back to a larger pack.
  • Bobcats
    • Bobcats are harmless to humans but dont let their cuteness fool you.
    • They will make a snack out of a small dog without a problem.

WiFi & Cellular

  • Verizon and Sprint work flawlessly on almost all corners of the property. AT&T does not.
  • Our WiFi is extremely limited up here. Please do your best to disconnect
    • The WiFi name is `guest` with no password.
    • Please do not use streaming services like Netfix, Hulu, Pornhub, etc.
    • Zoom and other conference calls will work without an issue

Linens & Laundry

We have all your bedding and linen needs covered. The laundry room is located in the main house behind the kitchen.

  • If you're staying in the yurt, please leave your bedding at the main house before leaving
  • Please leave the washing machine door open after using to prevent mold.
  • Detergent is underneath the washing machine
  • If someones laundry is still wet in the dryer please dry it for them

Yurt

The yurt cleanliness and general order runs on the honor system. The yurt was cleaned by the previous guests before you and will be found by the next guests after you. You will be introduced to them via email or in person so you can meet and become friends. This is also where you can direct your formal written complaints if you have any.

The yurt is a 1/4 mile from the main house. You can walk there from a path by the main house but you can also drive through the 3rd gate to get there. Its an old ranch road but guests have successfully navigated many compact cars up there with ease.

  • Toilet Paper (Covid-19)
  • Bath Towels

Checkout

  • Please strip your bed and return the sheets to the laundry room in the main house
  • For those staying in the yurt
    • You are responsible for cleaning and tidying up the yurt for the next guest.
    • You will be introduced to the folks who stayed there before you and the folks who are staying after you.
    • Please empty the composting toilet bucket in the 'Shit Hole' that is designated on the map
  • On your way out please ask if you can take any trash or recycling down the hill to the trash bins at the corner of Sweetwater Springs and Westside Road
  • Come again and drive safe!
